Travelling and exploring can be electrifying, but it may burn your pocket as well if you fail to plan your trips and fall into unnecessary expenses. Budget travel is about spending less and exploring more. Here are a few tips and tricks to avoid petty expenses and unwanted shopping and make maximum out of your travel budget and become a pro while you bailout for your next spree.
Though books are our best friends while we are travelling, we tend to buy books on the go and sometimes we do not even realize the amount of money we spend on them. Instead, try and find E-books which are cheaper and save a lot of space as well. E-books are pocket friendly, compact and handy, saving a lot of your money and lots of space in your bag.
Souvenirs are usually bought as a keepsake of memories during the travel, but by the time they reach home they are no more than a junk inside your cupboard. Instead, click pictures from your smartphones or cameras to make memories and revisit them as and when you see the pictures.
Garments are one of the highest bought items during travel. We are so obsessed with clothes that we shop before we travel and also make sure that we shop while we are holidaying as well. Avoiding shopping for clothes will save a good chunk of your budget and will let you spend and explore more. It is a good deal to save and enjoy rather than buying the stuff we can easily find in our own city/town.
Like garments and clothes, bags or purses also stand in the category of unwanted expenses if they are shopped for. There is no point in buying something which is easy in the market of your hometown. I believe that shopping in a tourist place always blades your wallet and does not give you a satisfying experience as well. The best thing would be to save on that money and start seeing the unseen.
5. Heavy accessories
Heavy accessories look attractive, but they are significantly unwanted as they come pretty pricey and do not serve the purpose as well, neither while you are travelling, nor once you reach home. Before you fall for any such heavy or valuable accessory ask yourself, do you really need it? As it will be an added baggage throughout your trip.
The urge to try new things is usually high while we are away from home on holidays. Shopping for shoes or a pair of sandals is a waste of money as we will not be using them until and unless it is extremely necessary.
I would recommend going for the footwear which is comfortable and relaxing or the used ones, instead of trying on something new especially something like shoes or sandals where there is a high possibility of getting shoe bites, and I am sure you do not want to hurt your legs when you know travelling is all about walking and exploring the new and unseen places.
7. Getting Tattooed
Tattoo is in and is going to stay as a fashion statement. But getting a tattoo done while travelling is not a good idea. If you are not sure about the expertise of the tattoo artist and being a tourist place they might be charging a bomb for some petty art. The wise thing would be to save money on that and if you are really keen on getting yourself inked, get back home and get it done from a local tattoo artist.
8. Hotel meals
If you are on a budget trip, try avoiding hotel meals from the hotel where you are staying. You can take the breakfast if that is included in your package, but hotel meals i.e lunch/dinner will blade your pocket. Instead, many options would be available if you would want to try a local dish or you can carry some homemade snacks with you like an energy bar, trail mix etc which will keep you full and healthy.
If you are on a saving spree, avoid buying tour or transportation tickets on the spot, instead, buy them way in advance while you are planning your trip. This will save a lot of money and give you a peaceful experience when compared to running around for tickets at the very last moment.
Do not buy medicines while you are travelling, alternatively pack the essentials medicines in your bag itself. Tourists’ places are usually high on prices for essential items like medicines and food. Packing your basic medicines like pain killers, anti-septic cream/lotion and some compact sprays will not only keep you relaxed but also make your travel economic and trouble-free.
Swimwears are again one of the few items you should avoid buying while on an economic budget trip. As the tourist places provide the ones which are high in the pocket and low in quality. Conversely, you can carry one with you which you had been using and is of good quality to avoid falling for an expensive one with poor quality.
